Minimum Wage in IL 2025: Be Prepared

The minimum wage increase in Illinois is a cost that will impact staffing companies who pay their employees at or around that wage. Typically you will need to pass this increase along to your clients which although is the right thing to do nobody will like! Be prepared for this by keeping track of the dates and increases with the following table:

New WageDate New Wage Becomes Effective
$8.25/hr
Jan 1st 2019
$9.25/hr
Jan 1st 2020
$10.00/hr
July 1st 2020
$11.00/hr
Jan 1st 2021
$12.00/hr
Jan 1st 2022
$13.00/hr
Jan 1st 2023
$14.00/hr
Jan 1st 2024
$15.00/hr
Jan 1st 2025

Remember in 2020 there will be two increase. One January 1st and the other July 1st.

One strategy to help with this increased cost is to make sure your clients are well communicated with so they can anticipate the increases with plenty of time to make adjustments on their end. Along with this a broker can help by guiding you to ensure your Work Comp plans and Employee Benefits plans are running as efficiently as possible. This can take time to achieve so start looking into it today!

For example, if your Mod Rate is high on Workers Comp your broker can help you identify where room for improvement can be had and work with you to implement training and education to bring that mod rate down.

Similar tactics and strategies can be had on the Employee Benefits side as well. If you have any questions please feel free to call Gene Badal at 847.636.7526 or email at gene@3oaksbc.com.
